One half of my ultimate favorite sister duo and fellow Cancer, Tia Mowry, recently posted a picture of a letter she wrote to her self when she was younger... I've read some before from other people for school assignments but I could relate more or less to hers. It immediately got me thinking what the heck would I say to my younger self right now if I could?! It's not really in the form of a letter but who cares right?
Resentment
LET IT GO. LET IT A L L go. The anger, the resentment, the bitterness towards daddy is and will be your downfall if you let it be. It will affect every aspect of your life - relationships, friendships, jobs, school, literally everything!
Don't try...Do it.
Don't be scared.. Just do it! If you decide you don't like it, then fine. Don't be afraid to speak up and let it be known how you are feeling, your thoughts, your opinions. It matters girl, it really does!
Believe in yourself.
People tell you that you are beautiful, pretty and etc but Y O U first and foremost need to believe that. Inside and out you are beautiful. You have such a big heart and need to show that more.
Stop comparing yourself to your sister! There is no competition. She isn't better than you nor are you better than her. Remind yourself always that you are you. It's not about that people like her better than you or any of that.
Let down that wall.
Open yourself up to people. You'll be surprised that you may have something in common with others, the types of friendships you can have and the doors that could open up if you just let that wall that's in front down.
It's not the end of the world if you're not the most friendly or apart of every group...
Don't stress yourself over having lots of friends or trying to be apart of a group. Don't be in a rush to grow up so fast because these, as cliche as it sounds, really are the best years of your life and memories that you'll remember down the line.
Long hair, thick, busty girl isn't you and girl that's fine!
It's okay that you don't look like the other girls around you at school or elsewhere - long, straight hair, big butt, thick, etc. You look beautiful just the way you are... skinny and all. Don't let anyone
Someone else's approval of who you are and how you want to live yourself is not needed.
Stop trying to get validation from others because you don't need it! You are worth it. You are stronger than you think and just need to get out of your own head.
Okay, so high school is NOTHING like the real world but you should still make the best of it.
Enjoy high school. Get involved with activities. Do different things and figure out exactly what it is that you like or love and pursue it.
Keep it moving.
Don't dwell on the negative things going on in your life. Stop over thinking everything. Learn from the shit you go through and just keep it moving.
Though some years have passed, you, like many other people, still battle some things on a daily and you have made plenty of mistakes and horrible decisions, you have grown in many ways. You have people who love, support and are there for you. But we'll leave all of that for another time.
Remember... love, believe in, and respect yourself. You are much more than what and who you think you are.
